Eastern Orthodoxy

Historically, the term Greek Orthodox has also been used to describe all Eastern Orthodox Churches, since "Greek" in "Greek Orthodox" can refer to the Greek heritage of the Byzantine Empire. During eight centuries of Christian history most major intellectual, cultural, and social developments in the Christian church took place within the Empire or in the sphere of its influence, thus most parts of the liturgy, traditions, and practices of the church of Constantinople were adopted by all, and still provide the basic patterns of contemporary Orthodoxy.

Roman Catholicism

The Christian Church based in the Vatican and presided over by a pope and an episcopal hierarchy. To belong to the church one must accept as factually true the gospel of Jesus as handed down in tradition and as interpreted by the bishops in union with the pope. Fundamental in this divine tradition is the Bible, its text determined and disseminated by the church. Adherents must also accept the church as possessing the fullness of revelation, and the church, according to the Roman Catholic catechism, is the only Christian body that is "one, holy, catholic [universal], and apostolic." The doctrine of apostolic succession is one of the keystones of the Catholic faith.

Protestant Reformation

The chief characteristics of original Protestantism were the acceptance of the Bible as the only source of infallible revealed truth, the belief in the universal priesthood of all believers, and the doctrine that a Christian is justified in his relationship to God by faith alone, not by good works or dispensations of the church. There was a tendency to minimize liturgy and to stress preaching by the ministry and the reading of the Bible. Although Protestants rejected asceticism, an elevated standard of personal morality was advanced; in some sects, notably Puritanism, a high degree of austerity was reached. Their ecclesiastical polity, principally in such forms as episcopacy (government by bishops), Congregationalism, or Presbyterianism, was looked upon by Protestants as a return to the early Christianity described in the New Testament.

Iglesia Ni Cristo (1914)

Iglesia ni Cristo(pronounced [iglesia ni Cristo); Tagalog for Church of Christ; also known as INC, and previously known as Iglesia ni Kristo or INK (Kristo being the Tagalog translation for Christ) is the largest entirely indigenous Christian religious organization that originated from the Philippines and the largest independent church in Asia. Due to a number of similarities, some Protestant writers describe the INC's doctrines as restorationist in outlook and theme, but INC does not consider itself to be part of the Restoration Movement. Felix Y. Manalo officially registered the church as a Corporation Sole with himself as executive minister on July 27, 1914 and because of this, most publications refer to him as the founder of the church. The INC holds beliefs that are unique and contrary to many established Christian denominations, placing it outside of what some define as traditional Christianity. Such beliefs include the denial of the trinity and the necessity of membership in the Church for salvation. They also believe that Felix Manalo is the angel mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

Seventh-Day Sabbatarianism

Adherring to the belief that we should worship on a Saturday, Seventh-Day Sabbatarians appeal to the Old Testament or the Mosaic law on the Sabbath day. Aside from the Jews and the Socinians in Europe, those who hold to this belief are the Seventh-Day Adventists and other Evangelicals.

Oneness/Modalism

The belief that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are just modes of the single person who is God. Adherrents of this belief are the Oneness Pentecostals.

Mormonism

Also known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Founded by Joseph Smith Jr, this movement redefines the meaning of the "Trinity" and one of its distinctive belief is that Jesus is the spirit-brother of Lucifer.

ISLAM

Next to Christianity, the Religion of Islam ranks second in the number of professed adherrents. They claim to believe in God (Allah) whose major prophet is Muhammad. They also claim kinship to the Jewish and Christian faith but not so at a closer scrutiny.

Other Foreign Religious Movements

"For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders." (Mk 13:22a). As the Church expands its territories there has also been a global rise of cults of Christianity, the major ones are called Christian Science, Jehovah's Witness, and Mormonism.
